The CTM Solution:
Shell Canada wanted a new retail petroleum facility and c-store that would be attached to an adjacent space leased to Tim Hortons – complete with a drive-thru. Due to the proximity to an existing hotel and multi-story condominiums, CTM had to thoughtfully design the site to minimize the impact of vehicular light and noise pollution. CTM incorporated various protruding building facades, as well as varying parapet heights to create visual interest, and to break up the otherwise long and “boxy” building profile. Custom wood trellis enclosures were created to screen the rooftop equipment from the adjacent residential and hotel units. Special attention was given to ensure the drive-thru lane would operate efficiently, while avoiding negatively impacting the vehicular corridors into/out of the adjacent hotel.
